Mike's Journey

Waterton, Walks and Work

Posted on May 3, 2026 By Melissa

We live in such a beautiful place! Growing up in Chilliwack, it’s easy to miss the mountains when moving to the Prairies, but we really have the best of both worlds…the Rocky Mountains are our horizon and only a one hour drive away!

Last week Mike, William, and Frans went to Waterton for an afternoon. It is such a great time to go, because not a lot of stores are open and there are no crowds. The weather is great, the grass is green, the trees are starting to get their leaves, the mountains are still covered in snow, the waterfalls have lots of water, and the animals are out and about!

Right beside Cameron Falls is a short, steep, and somewhat paved path to the top of the falls. Mike wanted to go to the top of the falls…and of course William said “Ok!”

When William sent me the pictures, I said, “I can’t believe you got him up and back down without falling!” to which William replied “I know!” 😄 (To be clear, William always does a risk assessment with Mike before doing things that have the possibility of falling, so Mike is aware of the risk…but always decides it is worth it….lol)

Mike also went out for walks several times this week…I think the real Spring is actually here!!

In between the fun stuff, Mike is still always doing the work to physically stay as mobile as possible, as well as continuing to work on his communication. Last week I received a birthday card in the mail from Mike which was so nice…thank you to Andrelei for continuing to work with Mike on his communication!

Though Mike doesn’t do physio with the Physiotherapists, he is able to occasionally use the room and equipment to continue working on skills.

So far it looks like this coming week is going to be great weather again, so I am sure Mike will have a lot of time outdoors again!

Thanks for following along with Mike’s week. He always appreciates your comments and messages!
