I think Mike would have a hard time choosing what was the highlight of this past week…hiking at Beauvais Lake or the Gait Walker trial!
On Wednesday, Mike was able to try out a Gait Walker. This device has a lot of support and is designed to help Mike practice stepping/walking with minimal support from those helping him.

This means that anyone with Mike will be able to walk around the building with him, not just William! This will help Mike build muscle, strengthen his bones, and improve blood circulation. These are big things for his health and mobility.
The price tag on the Gait Walker is insane, and isn’t covered under any funding. It seems when a device falls into the medical category and is customizable to the persons needs, the price tag goes sky high :(.
However, since this device will improve Mikes physio and quality of life dramatically, it has been ordered! When it arrives, we will do a more detailed video on how this works for him!
Hiking
I think a tie for favorite activities this week was hiking at Beauvais Lake with Adaptable Outdoors. I made a little video of it that I posted to Facebook as well.

Earlier this week, Mike and William went to check out the Old Man Dam as with all the rain, it was still open. On Monday when they were there, it was opened further and made for a cool picture! It was raining pretty hard, so they enjoyed the view from the vehicle.

Then on Wednesday, the regular travel crew of Mike, William, John and Frans, decided to go check out Lundbreck Falls in the Crowsnest Pass. On the way, they decided to take a quick peak at the Old Man Dam to see how much water was still being let out…

Everyone got out of the vehicle, sat in the beautiful warm sunshine listening to the rushing water….and lost track of time and did not end up continuing down the road to Lundbreck Falls!
It was still an awesome day out, and extended the adventure by taking the back way home, on the gravel roads and past the Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump.
This coming week, Mike plans to go hiking again, this time somewhere else…exciting stuff!
