Adapting

Posted on May 24, 2026 By Melissa

This week, while fishing in Pincher Creek with Adaptable Outdoors, I was talking with Steve about the things they do to make activities adaptable for those with physical limitations, such as being in a wheelchair.

The electric reels on their fishing rods help Mike reel in the line even though he can’t physically spin the reel itself.

Their Trail Riders make hiking on trail a possibility for everyone!! They do need a lot of volunteers to make hiking happen, as it can be strenuous depending on the trail, and being able to switch out people doing the pushing and pulling on these Trail Riders is a necessity!

Mike is planning to go hiking in a few weeks, but more volunteers are still needed to make that happen! If you enjoying hiking and would like to help out, please head to Adaptable Outdoors and sign up!

The other activity Mike is planning to do this summer is head out on the water to canoe/kayak. This activity also requires volunteers who are experienced paddlers.

On Monday, after working with William in the morning, Mike head out with Frans for a drive along the Old Man river, checking out how full the reservoir was before heading into Cowely for a visit with Dave at HC Forest Products.

Tuesday and Wednesdays were regular days, working with William and hanging out with family and friends.

Thursday was the Pound Maker Ram sale in Fort Macleod, which Bert and Andrelei are part of. Mike always enjoys going to this sale, and this year they raised over $24,200.00 for STARS! STARS Air Ambulance is such an important resource, especially in rural communities, and it’s awesome when people support it in a big way!

We hope you all have a great week and remember that every day is a gift from God!
